Everything you need to know before purchasing solar batteries
Calculate your daily energy consumption (in kWh) and desired backup time to determine the battery capacity you need. Consider factors like essential loads and future expansion.
Select between LITHIUM LFP (high performance, long lifespan), AGM (maintenance-free), or GEL (deep cycle, temperature resistant) based on your budget and usage requirements.
LITHIUM LFP batteries can typically discharge 80-100%, while AGM should only discharge 50% and GEL 60%. Choose a battery that matches your daily cycling needs.
Check how many charge/discharge cycles the battery can handle before capacity drops to 80% of original. LITHIUM LFP batteries typically offer 3,000-6,000 cycles, while AGM and GEL offer 500-1,500 cycles.
Ensure the battery is compatible with your existing inverter/charger or plan to purchase a compatible system. Some batteries require specific communication protocols.
Look for batteries with at least a 5-year warranty (10 years for premium lithium). Check if warranty covers capacity retention over time.
